I was looking at some of the event pictures and was wondering if the headlight tape was race group only.  In my old bike days it was only for race. Times they didnt require it.

It is a "glass headlights only" thing. If you have a modern car with a plastic sheild over your lights, you don't have to use tape. If you have a 67 Mustang, you need to use tape. The reason for tape it to keep glass off the track, really, and glass can get cracked by a stone thrown up from a car in front of you, race group or not.

Many of the guys use it to protect their cars from chips, and I suppose cracks in the plastic headlight covers, but that's their choice.

Thanks John.

I didnt think about the dings to the paint. I knew about the glass part. Back in my crazy bike days we had to tape everything, brake reservoirs, cables, turn signals. the works.
