What is the Challenge Series?

The SV Challenge Series comes in two flavors: the Overall Challenge Series, and the model-specific Challenge Series (Corvette Challenge Series, S2000 Challenge Series, etc). In the Overall Challenge Series, cars are classed according to on-track capabilites, based upon HP, suspension, weight, etc. The model-specific Challenge Series' are a group of Time-Trials series, each taylored to a specific make/model of car. Both Series are season-long points races culminating in the awarding of the Championship to the driver with the most points in each class. These series were designed to allow particpants to compete in their street cars without the risk of damage inherent in a regular race series, as there is no wheel-to-wheel racing involved.

How do the Series' work?

To be entered into the Overall Challenge Series, simply register for one of our events, and select "Timing" on the registration form. Your car will be classed, and you will automatically be entered into the series. If your car is the same make and model as an active model-specific Challenge Series, you will automatically be added to that series as well. In either instance, you will be timed for each lap you run at the event (aside from session 1, in which there is no timing), at the end of which your fastest lap time will be compared with the lap times of the other particpants. Keep in mind that points for the series are awarded on an event-day basis. This means that for a weekend-long event, there will be points awarded for day 1 of the event, and a seperate set of points awarded for day 2.

Is there a Challenge Series for my car?

Currently, there are Challenge Series' for S2000s, WRXs, Evos, Corvettes, Miatas and Radicals. If you can get together a group of 5 or more cars of the same model for our events, we would be happy to create a series for you! Just let us know!

How and why are cars classed?

The classing mechanisms for the various model-specific Challenge Series vary by Series, and can be found on the series-specific pages (S2000 classing, Corvette classing, Miata classing, WRX classing, Radical Classing). For the Overall Series, essentially, the classing is an attempt to level the playing field within a class, putting a competitive group of cars together of which any of them has a chance to win. Stock and modified cars run in classes together, with modified cars being bumped into a higher class than their stock equivalents. For instance, a supercharged Mustang with 400 hp may be bumped into class T5, racing against stock and lightly-modified C5 and Z06 Corvettes.

How are points awarded?

Points towards the Championship are awarded to the drivers with the top 6 times for each event-day as follows:

Position Points
1
10
2
6
3
4
4
3
5
2
6
1

How and why are results dropped?

We're realistic enough to realize that not all of our participants will be able to make every event, and that some cars are not allowed on certain tracks, so to allow these drivers to compete fairly, the bottom 3 event results for each driver is dropped from the points standings at the end of the season. This is done at the end of the season, and is the reason your points total may not add up to the number of points you've accumulated through the course of the season.
